Event Details

Monday, January 27, from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM, at the Complesso San Giuseppe, the workshop of the Speak4Nature project titled “Rethinking Ecological Justice in the Anthropocene: Comparative and Multidisciplinary Perspectives” will take place. The event is organized by Rodrigo Míguez Núñez, Professor of Private Law at DISSTE. The workshop aims to foster interdisciplinary and comparative reflection on the concept of ecological justice, analyzing it across different local contexts in light of the theoretical and practical challenges posed by the Anthropocene—a current geological epoch in which human activities have caused territorial, structural, and climatic changes that impact geological processes.

The speakers include Speak4Nature visiting scholars Marcelo Pretto Mosmann (Federal University of Santa Catarina), Lotta Ortheil (Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich), Carmen Madorrán (Autonomous University of Madrid), and Letícia Albuquerque (Federal University of Santa Catarina).

After an introduction by Professor Míguez Núñez, the speakers will discuss:

  • The case of the Nova Seival coal-fired power plant,
  • Urban agroforestry in Rio de Janeiro and Berlin,
  • The minimal conditions necessary to speak of a “good life” in the Anthropocene, and
  • Ecological justice and the Ecological Justice Clinic project.

The workshop is part of the second phase of the Speak4Nature project, which explores the “empirical” dimension of ecological justice through an interdisciplinary lens, a hallmark of the initiative.
